Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacant teaching and non-teaching staff positions below in Sam Maris University, Supare-Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria.
THE UNIVERSITY
Sam Maris University, licensed by the Federal Government of Nigeria in May 2023 is the first private University in Akoko Land, established with the vision to be a world-renowned University that is internationally distinguished for excellent research, high academic standards in legal, managerial, social and applied sciences, and commitment to social justice.
The University is located within a serene and secure environment at Km 2, Etioro - Afaa Road, Supare-Akoko in Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State. Our state-of-the-art structures include the Senate Building, Administrative Block and Academic Buildings, Sports Field, Hostels, Library, Health Centre, Cafeteria, well-equipped Laboratories and other facilities such as internet connectivity, etc. and the University runs twenty-two (22) first degree programmes across four (4) Faculties namely Faculty of Computing and Environmental Sciences; Faculty of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences; Faculty of Law; and Faculty of Social and Management Sciences.
1. UNIVERSITY LIBRARY
1.1 POSITION: UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN
THE PERSON
The University Librarian is a Principal Officer of the University. Candidates for the post must be visionary, possess personal integrity and demonstrate transparency in private and public life with proven ability to provide good leadership and command the respect and loyalty of the staff of the University.
THE POSITION
The University Librarian is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the administration of the Library services of the University and for any other matters relating to the Library.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Candidate must:
i. possess a PhD in Library and Information Science or a related field from a recognized University;
ii. be certified by the Librarian’s Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN) and hold membership of the Nigeria Library Association;
iii. be competent in computer applications to run a complex and modern-day University Library and other relevant skills in Strategic Planning, Staff Management, Copyright and Intellectual Property, Financial Responsibility, among others;
iv. possess at least fifteen (15) years’ cognate experience in University Library services; and
v. possess a substantial number of scholarly publications in reputable international and national journals.
In addition, the candidate should not be below the rank of Deputy Librarian and must have served for at least three (3) years in the position.
DUTIES
The duties of the University Librarian shall be to:
(a) collect and systematize adequate and relevant library materials;
(b) ensure regular training and development of library professional and support staff;
(c) allocate the approved funds of the library and give returns on utilization;
(d) ensure that library professional staff comply with the rules of the Librarian Registration Council;
(e) ensure that the library is digitalized, computerized, networked and integrated into national and international networks;
(f) facilitate inter-library cooperation and provide access to the resources of other libraries;
(g) generate revenue outside the allocation by the University;
(h) organize the library’s human resource functions;
(i) prepare the budget of the library;
(j) procure and organize teaching and research materials from various publishing outfits based on the requirements of the Faculties, Departments and other units of the University;
(k) procure stationery and other materials for library use;
(l) provide bibliographic instructions to users;
(m) provide circulation and reprographic services to users of the library;
(n) provide current awareness services on new accessions through the library bulletin, accessions lists, displays, exhibits, etc.;
(o) provide information and reference services to users of the library;
(p) provide outreach and community services;
(q) provide users open access to library resources;
(r) scrutinize library expenditure and keep it within budget;
(s) disseminate information especially for research activities; and
(t) provide incentives to staff to carry out research and to support the publication of findings.
VISION STATEMENT
Candidate should submit his/her Vision Statement for Sam Maris University in the next five years as a Library of the 21st Century with particular reference to administration, control, and innovation in library services.
SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
The appointment will be subject to the University Statutes and Ordinances and to Regulations Governing the Conditions of Service of Employees made by the University Governing Council from time to time. The salary and allowances shall be as applicable to the post of University Librarian in Nigerian Universities and as may be approved by the University Governing Council from time to time.
1.2 LAW LIBRARIAN (SMU CONASS 03)
Candidate must possess a good degree in Law (LL.B. and BL.) and Master's in Library and Information Science or a related field from a recognized University plus membership of Librarian’s Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN) and/or the Nigeria Library Association. A Master’s degree in Law (LL.M) and work experience in a Law Library will be an added advantage.
2.0 TEACHING STAFF POSITIONS
2.1 PROFESSOR – SALARY (SMU CONASS 07)
Candidate must possess a minimum of PhD degree in any of the disciplines stated in the respective Faculties listed below. Candidate should also have a minimum of 10 years’ teaching and research experience at the university level, and should be a scholar of high repute with considerable publications in reputable and peer-reviewed Journals and proven ability to provide leadership. Evidence of registration with relevant professional bodies is required.

Candidate must possess a good first degree not below Second Class Lower Division in Mass Communication or a related discipline from a recognized University. The candidate must be digitally proficient. Possession of a considerable cognate experience in a media house shall be an advantage.
3.2 UNIVERSITY HEALTH CENTRE
NURSING OFFICER (SMU CONHESS 07)
Candidate must possess a good B.Sc. degree in Nursing Science not below Second Class Lower Division plus registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
Candidate with a good Registered Nurse Certificate with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) and considerable cognate post qualification experience may apply for consideration as appropriate.
REFERENCES
Candidate must nominate three (3) referees who MUST forward references on him/her directly to the Registrar and Secretary to Council. Such persons who must be of high integrity should include candidate’s Head of Department/Unit. The envelope should be duly marked with the name of candidate and post at the Top Left Hand Corner to reach the Registrar within the time frame for submission of applications.
